Arrival Date
The conference begins at 5:00pm
on Sunday 3 August in the Castle courtyard. Those traveling across time
changes may wish to arrive on Saturday 2 August. There will be the option
of a tour to Hever Castle and
Gardens leaving Sunday at 9:00am and returning by 4:30pm. (Those arriving
Saturday pay for one night's bed and breakfast when they check in; dinner
will arranged at a nearby pub, to be paid for at the event.)

by Air in the UK
Gatwick airport is much closer to the castle than Heathrow. Gatwick airport
also offers the option of regular train service from Gatwick to Polegate,
the closest station to Herstmonceux. Most delegates travel by taxi or
rental car. Taxis from either airport are very expensive unless booked
ahead of time with taxis based near Herstmonceux, which offer special
rates; details for booking taxis will be available later on the conference
website.
Deposit
Once you submit your pre-registration,
you will need to send a deposit (50% refundable before 30 April 2008)
to Tom Russell as explained on the main conference
page. Rooms will be allocated based on the date your deposit is posted.
It is unlikely that there will be enough en suite rooms to meet the demand,
so an early deposit is recommended. It is unlikely that we can
accept individuals who are not presenting a paper, and it is possible
that some off-site accommodation will be required.
Final
payment of the balance owing will be due in May and will be collected
by credit card and charged in UK pounds. You will be advised of the balance
owing at the time that the payment procedure is announced. Credit card
information will be collected by secure web software and will be processed
by Herstmonceux Castle Enterprises.
Meals
Meals are served cafeteria style, with considerable choice available.
Preferences for vegetarian, vegan, and low fat are requested on the pre-registration
form so that the chef can be made aware of levels of interest.
