Varied Thrush nest, Deadhorse Pass, Alaska

Research

I am fascinated by a broad array of questions in biology, including what causes high tropical diversity, how related species coexist, and how new species are formed.

The main research foci in my lab are:

Latitudinal Variation in Diversity

Species Interactions & Coexistence

Population Differentiation & Speciation

Natural History of Birds

I also frequently collaborate on projects outside of my research foci, including physiological adaptation in birds (Fran Bonier), phylogenetics of birds (Steve Lougheed), and predicted impacts of global climate change (Josh Tewksbury).
