January 27, 2011 Domino Theatre presents Trying by Joanna McClelland GlassDomino Theatre’s 2nd production of 2011 and this year’s entry into the Eastern Ontario Drama League festival is the Canadian play “Trying”. This poignant two-character play is based on the author Joanna McClelland Glass’ experience in 1967–1968 when she worked for Francis Biddle at his home in Washington, D.C. Judge Biddle had been Attorney General of the United States and Chief Judge of the American Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. The play focuses on the nuances of a young Canadian girl and an old Philadelphia aristocrat “trying” to understand each other in what Biddle knows is the final year of his life. The play features the incredibly talented cast of Naomi Ballance as Sarah Schorr and William Morrow as Judge Francis Biddle. At the helm, Penny Nash directs this touching play with assistance by stage manager Pauline Jodoin, set designer Grant Buckler, sound designer Michael Gourgon and lighting designer David L. Smith. Rounding out the crew are producers Sherri Robinson and Anne-Marie Pap, costume designer Claudia Wade and property manager Carolyn Burley. Trying opens at the Baby Grand Theatre on March 10th, 2010 and plays Thursday to Saturday until March 26th with an extra performance on Tuesday March 22nd. Curtain time is 8 pm. Tickets are available at $18 each plus the Grand Theatre charges through the Grand Theatre box office at 218 Princess Street or by telephone at 613-530-2959.
