New Home for Domino Theatre Will Shine Brightly Thanks to OTF Grant

Kingston, ON – Domino Theatre’s new home in historic Portsmouth Village will be well equipped, thanks in part to a $101,200 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to install its lighting system. Local MPP John Gerretsen was joined by OTF representative Nina Jenkins and Mayor Mark Gerretsen to officially congratulate the community theatre and present a plaque from the Foundation.

“Investing in Ontario’s arts and entertainment industry helps to strengthen our economy,” said John Gerretsen, MPP for Kingston and the Islands. “This grant will allow the Kingston community to enjoy the Domino Theatre for years to come.”

The new lighting system will provide audiences with better performance experiences in Domino's projected 150 seat theatre, to be built in the Harold Harvey Arena and slated to open in September 2011. “We are absolutely thrilled. This support affirms the value Domino has for the community of Kingston,” said Domino Theatre President, Kenneth Weston.

Domino Theatre Inc, a volunteer-led organization, has been staging live performances in Kingston for almost 60 years. In addition, it has worked with many community organizations and local high schools to promote fundraising events and theatre arts education. As a member of the Eastern Ontario Drama League and Theatre Ontario, Domino is actively involved in the Ontario amateur theatre community and has hosted several annual festivals.

A leading grantmaker in Canada, the Ontario Trillium Foundation strengthens the capacity of the voluntary sector through investments in community-based initiatives. An agency of the Government of Ontario, OTF builds healthy and vibrant communities.
