August 26, 2010 Domino Theatre Presents Collected StoriesDomino Theatre Inc. opens its FIFTY EIGHTH season with the play “COLLECTED STORIES” by Donald Margulies. This modern tale, set in New York City, introduces us to Ruth Steiner, successful writing teacher who had hoped to be a successful author. A rather insecure young student, Lisa Morrison enters Ruth’s life and out of the teacher mentor relationship a friendship blooms. Over the years we see Lisa grow and mature into a fine short story writer. Ruth tells Lisa what she feels are private details of her life, some of which Lisa uses in her breakout novel. The play explores, with humour and compassion, the complicated relationship between the two women and the dilemmas often faced by authors as they search for stories. The play was shortlisted for the Pulitzer Prize in 1997. Andrea Leyton, last seen on our stage in “Marion Bridge”, plays Ruth and newcomer Hollie Carter plays Lisa. Steve Powell is director and set designer, Marion Savage is Stage Manager, John Stephenson creates the lighting, Peter Cassidy the sound, Kathy Baer the props and Denise Bond the costumes. “Collected Stories” opens at the Baby Grand Theatre on Thursday September 16th, 2010 and plays Thursday to Saturday until October 2nd. There is also a performance on Tuesday September 28th. Curtain time is 8 pm. Tickets are available at $18 each plus Grand Theatre charges through the Grand Theatre box office at 218 Princess Street or by telephone at 613-530-2050.
