Patricia Beharriell is a name many Kingstonians will remember. She received the Order of Canada in 1993 for her work as a major supporter of Community Theatre in Canada. Her love of Domino Theatre, an all volunteer amateur theatre group in Kingston, lead her to become our longest serving board member and archivist. For our fiftieth anniversary she and Ken Weston wrote a history of Domino, “The Domino Affair”,/font>

After her death in 2005, memorial donations were received by Domino Theatre and then sent on to the Eastern Ontario Drama League (EODL) and a new scholarship was created in her honour.

The President of the EODL had the pleasure of presenting the first “Patricia Beharriell Scholarship Award” in Ottawa on Saturday November 13 in front of a packed audience. They were there to see the final three presentations of the EODL One Act Play festival.

Stuart Alldritt, a student volunteer at Ottawa Little Theatre received the award as a student who will go on to study higher education in a non-performing side of theatre. This award will be presented every year there is a student nominated by one of the twenty-five member groups of the EODL, an area encompassing Cornwall to Ottawa to Peterborough, Deep River and Lindsay.

Pat’s other credits include – first woman to graduate in the Technical Programme from the Pasadena Playhouse just after the war, Board of Directors and Festival organizer for the Dominion Drama Festival. Founder and Board member of Theatre Ontario, Canada’s rep and member of the North American Amateur Theatre Alliance, executive Board member of the International Amateur Theatre Association.

Domino Theatre is pleased and happy to have arranged to honour such a fine, dedicated volunteer.
