Construction Update

Costume load-in

February 2: We're open, but that doesn't mean the work is all done. Today our costumes came out of storage and into the costume room. Props are still being unpacked and sorted, and a large storage rack has just been installed for furniture storage.

January 18: And in the evening, the ribbon-cutting, the grand opening gala and the first public performance of Domino's first production in the new Davies Foundation Auditorium, What Mildred Did!

January 18: The bar was installed in the lobby and appliances in the kitchen, just in time for the opening gala. Volunteers cleaned, painted and moved furniture. The dressing room is ready for use.

January 17: A crew of Domino volunteers finished emptying two storage lockers, moving props, furniture and equipment into the Harold Harvey Centre. The inspections necessary for occupancy have been completed.

January 14: With opening days away, Domino workers were all over the stage today completing the set for our first production in the new space, What Mildred Did!.

January 13: The aisles in the auditorium were carpeted today.

January 11: The lobby is being painted and coat hooks are installed. Work on the heating system and the public washrooms is nearly completed. There will be a temporary bar and kitchen facilities for the opening.

January 10: Handrails were installed in the auditorium today. The production crew for What Mildred Did! is hanging lights, while other volunteers sorted and stored props.

January 8: The makeup area in the dressing room is taking shape (right). Also this weekend we were installing shelving in the props room and rehearsal hall, as well as beginning to paint the set for our first production in the new space, What Mildred Did!


All seats installed

January 7: All the seats are now installed in the new auditorium. The gaps in the front row provide room for up to three wheelchairs, for a total of 163 seats.

January 3: Domino volunteers began cleaning and assembling seats yesterday, and today three rows were installed in the auditorium. Painters, tilers, heating installers and electricians were at work too.


Stage floor painted

December 29: The stage floor has been painted (right) and the auditorium walls and floor have had one coat of their final paint colour. Aisle lighting has been installed and most doors are in place.

December 27: Auditorium walls are now being painted.

December 26: The stage floor is completed and ready for painting.

December 24: Another good day's work on the stage floor.


Stage floor and priming

December 23: Domino volunteers were at work this afternoon laying the stage floor and priming the floor of the auditorium. Meanwhile contractors finished installing the main furnace, which is now working, and the backstage washrooms are usable.

December 22: The auditorium floor is built (seen at right from the stage). Painting of the stage walls is finished and now the auditorium walls are being primed. Laying the stage floor starts Friday afternoon.

December 20: The tiered auditorium floor is being built this week (seen at right from the booth). The entrance hall is also being tiled, and stage walls are being painted.

December 14: The auditorium ceiling has been painted black, and the stage ceiling is being painted. Work on the sound and lighting systems is nearing completion.


Costume room

December 9: Domino volunteers have installed costume storage racks in the costume room. These racks (right) were built for the temporary space Domino occupied on Development Drive for the last three years and have been re-assembled in the new theatre.

December 9: The lighting rails and electrical boxes have been installed on the auditorium ceiling and above the stage. At right above is the auditorium ceiling with nearly everything in place that will be going there.


Washroom

December 8: Tiling is under way in the public washrooms. Lighting bars are going up today in the auditorium. The painters have finished in the costume room and are working on the rehearsal hall.

December 6: Our volunteer painters are hard at work. At right, Matt Davis and Glen Piper on the job in the rehearsal room.


December 2: Painting has begun in some rooms, and ductwork, worklights and sprinkler systems are moving along well. At right is the stage ceiling, with ductwork and sprinklers in place.


December 1: Work on the theatrical lighting system is under way - near right are the electrical panels in the equipment room behind the stage. Stairs to the back doors of the auditorium and the lighting/sound booth are in place (far right).


November 18: Electrical work and ductwork for heating and air conditioning has been going on this week. At right are new electrical systems. Work on theatrical lighting and sound systems is due to start soon.


November 15 was the day we brought seats for the new theatre from Brockville and unloaded them into the Harold Harvey Building to await installation.


November 11: The drywallers have been in overdrive this week. The auditorium and stage area is now almost all closed in. At right above is the view of the stage from the audience area, and below, looking the other way at the back wall of the auditorium with the booth windows above. The opening at right will be an exit when seating risers are in place.



November 8: Drywalling is proceeding in backstage areas. The rehearsal hall is seen at right. Meanwhile heating ductwork is being installed and electrical work in the theatre continues.


November 1: The interior is really taking shape. Seen at right is the lobby. The main entrance is at right, with the ticket counter visible through the doorway. The door centre leads backstage. The area not yet drywalled will be a curved wall.


October 24: Framing is done and drywall is going up. This is the corridor between the auditorium and the workshop, rehearsal room and costume storage area.


October 11: All but the rehearsal room and scene shop walls are framed, and ceilings are being constructed. At right is the auditorium seen from the stage.


October 4: The stage (seen at right from downstage right) has been poured. Most of the walls are framed.


September 27: The stage (seen here from the window of the lighting and sound booth) is almost ready for concrete to be poured.


September 26: The back wall of the auditorium and the lighting and sound booth (right) have been framed. Walls within the backstage dressing room area are also framed, and all concrete except the stage subfloor has been poured.


September 19: Walls are going up! This is the view from what will be the lobby, with the actors' backstage area at right and the wall of the auditorium at left. In background, the area where the stage will be is being filled with gravel before concrete is poured.


September 9: Concrete has been poured for the floors of the Domino lobby, dressing rooms and backstage washrooms. In the foreground of this picture is where the lobby will be. Back and to the left of the picture is the backstage dressing room and washroom area. Public washroom walls have also been framed.


September 1: Trenches have been backfilled, framing has started in the front part of the building, work is being done on the roof and on a small addition to house a utility room (right).


August 22: Demolition work is done, new door and window openings have been made in the outside walls, drains installed for new plumbing. At right is the area that will eventually be the stage.

Domino Donor Recognition Plan

We issue charitable tax receipts for donations over $10.

Seats – We have 40 seats without name plaques – donation level $250. We will install a brass plaque with your name(s) on the arm of an auditorium chair.

Room naming rights - Naming rights to the auditorium, rehearsal hall, costume room, building area, sound/lighting booth, lobby, entrance and actors' green room have been sold.

Domino Recognition Wall in the lobby. Each person who donates to the Domino fundraising drive will be named in a list under a Domino.

The different levels of recognition are:
