Chair of Undergraduate Studies:
For three years, ending in July 2008, I served as the philosophy department's Chair of Undergraduate Studies. If you have questions about the undergraduate philosophy programme - registration or your enrollment status or the curriculum or whatever - feel free to contact me. You may also contact Judy Vanhooser, the department's secretary in charge of undergraduate affairs.
Departmental Computer Representative:
Prior to becoming Chair of Undergraduate Studies, I was the department's official computer guy. Most of the work was routine: people came to me with their computer problems and I tried to fix them; or, I arranged for new email/web accounts, when necessary. In the spring and summer of 2004, however, I undertook the important but tedious task of planning, constructing and implementing a completely new website for my department. Mark Fedyk, a Queen's undergraduate who is now studying philosophy at Cornell, provided crucial assistance; in fact, the job would have neither begun nor ended without him. Having gone through the process myself, I now have a new appreciation for coders and designers.
Conferences:
Somehow, I have found myself in the position of organizing or co-organizing seven conferences or workshops to this point in my career. Though not particularly enjoyable work, the topics seemed worth it and in each case, I had lots of help. At the moment, I don't have plans to put together another such event but who knows what the future may bring?
