In the early 1990’s Dr. Lefebvre’s research in the
molecular biology of nutrition in plants contributed to the formation in 1995 of the biotechnology
company Performance Plants Inc. with colleagues from the Biology Department at Queen’s
He worked in the company as Vice President from 1995 to 2003 working on R & D projects and liaising
with companies and government agencies involved in agriculture worldwide. Several patents were
obtained based on his university research.
Dr. Lefebvre returned to academia full time in 2003, but still retains ties to Performance Plants
Inc. which is located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. His teaching includes genetics to
undergraduate students as well as applied biology (e.g. bioremediation) to both undergraduate and graduate students.
