Musc 286*, "Women, Gender and Music" is a study, from feminist perspectives, of women's roles in music and relation to music in popular and classical genres of various historic and contemporary traditions. Critical examination of the construct of gender and identity in several musics is included.

Each student has the opportunity to connect feminist perspectives on women, gender and music to social contexts as well as musical ones.

Each student has the opportunity to develop creative and critical thinking.

Each student has the opportunity to learn individually and within the group.

Each student has the opportunity to pursue topic(s) of her/his choice and interest within the rubric of the course description.
