Lone Single Threat
Triple-triple varieties
The lone single threat must be doubly recessed, and there must be
an entry to it, which can lie in any of the threat suits. The player
stopping the lone threat will be squeezed first, when the second last
winner in the other single threat is cashed. There must then be a
card of re-entry to the three-threat hand, which can only be in the
other single threat (if it were in one of the double threats, the
position would reduce to a double squeeze).

In each case, South cashes the club A, squeezing West out of a
major suit stopper. Now South crosses to North's entry and cashes the
diamond winners, discarding the major suit threat which West has
retained and squeezing East in clubs and the major suit West has
abandoned. Note that although the preliminary squeeze against West is
automatic in form, the subsequent squeeze against East is positional,
so the squeeze fails if the opponents hands are interchanged. In the
first ending, East has an idle card; this can lie in any of the four
suits.
Triple-simple varieties
If in the above triple-triple endings, East's heart stopper is
removed, three triple-simple variations result. Entry to the lone
single threat can lie in any of the other threats (an entry in the
lone simple threat would reduce the position to a simple
squeeze).

In each case, South cashes the club A, forcing West to discard a
spade, then (if necessary) crosses to the North hand to lead the
diamond winners, squeezing East in the black suits.
