Jettison 1-Loser Triple Squeeze

[ Home | Catalogue | 1-Loser Triple Squeeze Index ]

When all conditions for a simple squeeze are in place (squeeze card, two threats, count rectified, entry), but there is an inconvenient winner in the fourth suit which can't be cashed without ruining the entry position, the squeeze will still operate if the following conditions hold:

All simple squeezes except those in the criss-cross family (for criss-cross and ruffing variations, the jettison is either unnecessary or impossible) lend themselves to this sort of ending:

In each case, South cashes the club A. West can either discard a red card, conceding the extra trick immediately, or a spade, allowing South to jettison North's spade A and cash the spade Q to complete the squeeze. Note in particular that position 6 involves a repeated jettison; if West discards a spade, then a heart, South must in turn jettison North's winners in those two suits.
