Strawberry's Poetry PagesIt started out innocently enough. I was listening to Loreena McKennitt's latest CD, Book of Secrets. She does a lovely version of Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman, which is a poem I've always loved. Some of his imagery is just so vivid. I decided that I'd like to put up the lyrics on a web page, and illustrate it. So, up went the lyrics. The next day I put up the first illustration, and realized that I don't know enough about the costumes of the time period the poem is set in to illustrate it any further at the moment. So, I went searching to find out more and instead I came up with more poems that I want to include. So, they're listed below, and illustrations will be added as time permits (don't hold your breath, in other words) The Highwayman, by Alfred Noyes Still gives me goosebumps. A Song Of Sherwood, also by Alfred Noyes The Lady of Shalott, by Alfred Lord Tennyson, 1842 ver. The Host of the Air, by W. B. Yeats The Hosting of the Sidhe, by W. B. Yeats The Unappeasable Host, by W. B. Yeats The Passionate Shepherd to His Love, by Christopher Marlowe If you liked these poems, you may also enjoy these songs These poetry pages are dedicated with love to the memory of John ("Jack")Lloyd Colton Harrison, who tried to instill a love of poetry in all his grandchildren from a young age. May I carry on the tradition. last updated January 19, 2000 |Home|*|Graphics|*|Traditional Songs|*|Poetry|*|Family|*|Links|*|Faeries|*|News| |
