The Japanese Terrier is not recognized by the Canadian Kennel club, so most of the information I have on it is stuff I found online. As such, I don't claim that it is correct. (Always question any information you find online!)

Probably descended from smooth-haired Fox Terriers imported from Holland in 1702, the Nippon (Japan) Terrier originated in Nagasaki as a cross between the smooth haired Fox Terrier and the local, probably smaller, dogs. It is considered a toy breed and not a terrier, and the breed standard can be found here:

It is also called the Nihon Teria.
