The Keeshond originated in the Netherlands (Holland) and are best known as barge dogs. They have been used as watch dogs on barges, hunters, herders on farms, and draft dogs. They belong to the Spitz family, along with such dogs as the Akita, Alaskan Malamute, Siberian Husky and Pomeranian. (The curly tail is often a giveaway that the dog is a member of the Spitz family.)
Medium-sized, Keeshonds should measure 17-18" at the shoulder. They have a lovely double coat; a harsh, longer outer coat and a thick, soft undercoat.
The require plenty of excercise and regular grooming.
