Specialized Teaching Areas
The following represents some of the material for areas in which I have taught and developed background material and research. Risk Management Check out the new course I will be teaching with my colleague, Yvonne Latta, on Strategic Risk Managment for the Industrial Relations Centre at Queens. A course description is available at the IRC site. This is a three day professional development course for managers in business, government and the not-for-profit sector. It is designed to develop a better understanding of risk in and to organizations, how to assess risks, manage them and communicate them to key stakeholders. Out of the exercises and speakers, the participant will develop a risk management plan for her or his organization. Governance I have been extensively involved with police and police service boards in developing a great knowledge of good governance practice for both police boards and the police executives who report to them. I have also worked with the Canadian Association of Police Boards in assisting the Associaton and a number of its members in implementing their best practices for good governance. Strategic Business Planning for Police Managers A new workshop at the Canadian Police College was desinged and delivered last year and will be repeated seveal times in the coming year due to the response. This is aimed at helping police executives understand how plans and budgets work to get the outcomes in policng that they want. Here is the Course Outline.
