Datasets and Organizations that provide data services:

• ICPSR at the University of Michigan. ICPSR stands for Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research. There is also a Data Archive and this is usually my first stop.
• The Bureau of Economics Analysis
• The Bureau of Labor Statistics
• Business Cycle Indicators from Media Logic. Very nicely done charts of BEA historical data, produced with their proprietary Windows software. Data itself is conveniently organized and available to download.
• Data from the U.S. Census Bureau
• Data on the net at UCSD. A searchable database of Internet sites of numeric Social Science statistical data.
• EconData at the University of Maryland. List of datafiles available for downloading. (Data is from BEA, includes some State & Local and International data as well.) Requires using their DOS-based program to read the data.
• EZdata, a huge collection of datasets for financial research at the University of Illinois
• Financial Data Finder, at Ohio State University
• Freeedgar provides real time access to corporate data filed with the SEC
• Historical Commodity Prices (as well as other financial data).
• International Trade Data, maintained by Jon Haveman
• J.P. Morgan. Includes data on commodities, currencies, government bond indices, mortgages, and emerging markets. (Most series are fairly recent only.)
• Journal of Business and Economic Statistics Archive
