In 2005, I compiled a list of birds found commonly breeding in cities all over the globe, using an email survey that I sent out to biologists, ornithologists, and birders. With amazing cooperation from people all over the planet, I was able to compile an extensive list. I published a study comparing geographic distributions of these species with congeners not found in cities in 2007 (pdf). If you would like access to the dataset used in this publication, you can find an Excel file of the data here. If you are interested in a more complete list of species that ended up on the urban bird list (including introduced species and species from cities that were excluded from my analysis because they were too small), or are having trouble downloading the data please email me. I would be happy to see this dataset used to test other hypotheses about the influence of urbanization and habitat disturbance on birds. You can also check out a story done by a popular media outlet on this work here.
