Research Facilities
The Parallel Processing Research Laboratory is equipped with the state-of-the-art computing and networking facilities. Our research laboratory is equipped with an 88-core cluster, located at WLH-706. Our cluster consists of four dual 2.0GHz AMD quad-core Opteron servers (Dell PowerEdge R805s), four dual 2.8GHz Intel single-core Xeon EM64T servers (Dell PowerEdge 2850s), four 4-way 1.4GHz Intel single-core Xeon MP servers (Dell PowerEdge 6650s), and eight two-way 2.0GHz Intel single-core Xeon MP servers (Dell PowerEdge 2650s). We also have access to four two-way 2.8GHz Intel dual-core Xeon EM64T servers (Dell PowerEdge 2850s) of Professor Chi-Hsiang Yeh's research group, housed in our cluster.
Recently, we have received the latest QDR and DDR ConnectX(2) HCAs and InfiniBand switches from Mellanox Technologies, 10-Gigabit iWARP RNICs from NetEffect (acquired by Intel), Myri-10G NICs from Myricom, 10-Gigabit Ethernet switch from Fujitsu, and Gigabit Ethernet switches from D-link. Nodes are also connected to a Myrinet2000 network from Myricom, a dual-rail Quadrics QsNetII network from Quadrics, as well as an SDR InfiniBand network from Mellanox Technologies.
In addition to our dedicated cluster, our research laboratory has a 3.4GHz Intel i7 desktop (Dell Optiplex 990), two 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo desktop (Dell Optiplex 760), a 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo desktop (Dell Optiplex 755), a 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Quad desktop (Dell Inspiron 545), a dual 3.0GHz Intel Xeon EM64T Workstation (Dell Precision 670n), a 2.2GHz Intel Pentium 4 workstation (Dell Precision 350), and a 2.8GHz Intel Pentium 4 desktop (Dell Dimension 8300). We have also access to the systems at HPCVL (High Performance Computing Virtual Laboratory) at Queen's University.
