Rick Cairns

Our Director

This September (2018), we welcome Rick Cairns as the new music director of the Frontenac Concert Band. Rick has degrees in Music and in Education from the University of Toronto. He has taught music to children in Kindergarten through Grade 12, in various locations, including Jamaica, Waterdown ON, and the Limestone DSB.
Over his 33 years of teaching, Rick started 3 secondary school instrumental music programmes. Rick was one of the two founding teachers of LEAP, the Limestone Education Through the Arts Programme.
Rick played the trumpet for 45 years, most notably with the Kingston Symphony in the 1980s, and with Kingstonís own BrassWerks. He served as conductor of BrassWerks for 3 seasons. Now retired, Rick continues to write and arrange for the group.
Rick spent 25 summers at National Music Camp, just outside Orillia, where he worked as a Band Conductor, and in later years, as the campís Music Director. In recent years, Rick has conducted the LaSalle Summer Band.
